Getting-to-Know-Markus-Phillips-LA-Kings-Draft-Pick

The LA Kings selected Markus Phillips with the 118th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2017 NHL Draft, and the 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman was on-hand to soak up every second of being drafted by an NHL team.

Phillips led all Owen Sound Attack defensemen in goals (13) and amassed 43 points during the 2016-17 season. He added five assists in 17 postseason contests before Owen Sound was eliminated by eventual OHL champion Erie in the third round.
In 2014-15, Phillips was captain of the Toronto Titans Minor Midget AAA club that won the GTHL Kraft Cup Championship. He recorded 21 points (four goals, 17 assists) in 24 games.
Internationally, Phillips was named captain of Team Canada at the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and also represented his country at the 2016 Under-18 World Championship.

The LA Kings fourth-round pick compares his style of play to Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly. He also said that Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green was his childhood hockey idol.
