Clague, 23, split last season between the Kings and Ontario Reign (AHL). The 6-0, 180-pound defenseman recorded his first career NHL points (0-6=6) through 18 games with the Kings and, as an assistant captain with the Reign, posted 12 points (1-11=12) in 23 contests along with one assist in the Reign's lone postseason game. Among Reign defensemen, he ranked third in assists and fourth in points.
Selected by the Kings in the second round (51st overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft, he has appeared in 22 NHL games since his Kings debut in 2019-20. In 124 regular season AHL games, Clague has totaled 66 points (16-50=66) and one assist in one playoff contest with the club. Prior to turning professional, Clague played four full seasons in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Moose Jaw Warriors, registering 167 points (26-141=167) in 195 regular-season games and adding 35 points (9-26=35) in 54 playoff contests. He served as an assistant captain during his last two seasons in Brandon.
The Regina, Saskatchewan native skated for Canada in two IIHF World Junior Championships, serving as an assistant captain on the gold medal-winning squad in 2018 and helping his country to a silver medal in 2017 while tying the tournament lead among defensemen in assists with six.
