Kings Captain Anze Kopitar recorded his fifth career hat trick, and first hat trick since March, 2018 in Thursday's season opening 6-2 victory over the Golden Knights. Kopitar also recorded two assists, giving him five points on the night. It was Kopitar's second career five-point game.
Drew Doughty also recorded four points himself (1-3=4). It was Doughty's second career four-point game and his first since the 2010-11 season.
Wild Notes:
The Wild enter Saturday night's bout against the Kings on the second half of a back-to-back. The Wild defeated the Anaheim Ducks last night 2-1 with a Marcus Foligno go ahead goal with just 7.2 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Wild outshot the Ducks 43-27.
Who to Watch:
Vladimir Tkachev, who recorded two assists in his NHL debut on Thursday.
Jonathan Quick, who is set to make his first start of the season. It is the first time since the 2009-10 campaign that quick did not start the first game of the season for the Kings.
Kirill Kaprisov, the 2020-21 Calder Trophy winner who led the Wild in goals (27) and points (52) last seaon. Kaprisov has recorded nine points (6-3=9) in eight career games against the Kings.
