Andersson, 22, split his first season with the Kings organization between the Kings and the Ontario Reign (AHL) after being acquired from the New York Rangers in exchange for the 60th overall selection of the 2020 NHL Draft. In 23 games with the Kings, he collected six points (3-3=6) to set a single-season career-high in goals and tied his career-best mark in points, set in 2018-19 during his time with the New York Rangers. He also recorded 17 points (6-11=17) in 15 contests with the Reign and added a goal in the team's lone postseason game. Before joining the Kings for the 2020-21 season, he played 19 games with HV71 of the SHL where he notched 11 points (5-6=11).
The 6-1, 190-pound forward has appeared in 89 NHL games since his debut in 2017-18, compiling 15 points (6-9=15) with the Kings and Rangers. In addition to his time in Ontario, Andersson spent time with the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL, totaling 56 points (21-35=56) in 89 career AHL contests between the two teams. Andersson was originally drafted by the Rangers in the first round (7th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft.
A native of Smogen, Sweden, Andersson has represented Sweden in several international tournaments. A gold medalist at the 2018 IIHF Men's World Championship (1-1=2, 10 GP), Andersson has twice served in a leadership role for Sweden, captaining the country to a silver medal in the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship (6-1=7, 7 GP) and serving as an alternate captain for the silver medal-winning entry at the 2016 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship (5-4=9, 7 GP). He also posted three assists in seven games during the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, falling to Russia in the bronze medal game.
