BUFFALO - The Canadiens finished their three-game Rookie Tournament swing on a high, defeating the Ottawa Senators' prospects 7-2 at the LECOM Harborcenter on Sunday.
Emil Heineman opened the scoring on the power play just after the game's first minute, when he wristed it from the faceoff dot after accepting a feed from Miguël Tourigny from the point.

Later in the first period, Riley Kidney doubled Montreal's lead with a wrister through traffic from the hashmarks. The goal was the Habs' second of the day on the power play.

Carson Latimer got the Senators on the board with 4:25 to go in the opening frame. The Habs took a 2-1 lead to the room after 20 minutes. The Canadiens' rookies scored a pair of quick goals midway through the second period. First, Xavier Simoneau finished off a beautiful passing play with Heineman and William Trudeau, burying it in the Ottawa net as the halfway mark of the period was approaching.

Then, around 90 seconds later, John Parker-Jones caused a turnover at the Montreal blue line and chased the puck into the Sens' zone on a breakaway where he beat Kevin Mandolese on the backhand to give the Canadiens a 4-1 lead.

Angus Crookshank scored a power-play goal with just over one minute remaining in the period. Montreal was leading 4-2 after 40 minutes of play. Brett Stapley rang the score up to 5-2 at 8:17 of the third when he knocked in the rebound of his own shot to the left of Mandolese.

Just 22 seconds later, Simoneau backhanded the rebound from Trudeau's point shot for his second of the day to make it 6-2 for the Habs.

Tourigny added a power-play marker - his first tally of the tournament - when he picked up Pierrick Dube's blocked shot and launched a quick wrister which beat Mandolese with a bit under three minutes left in the game.
