16x9 First Goal Vilardi Gabe

First NHL goals are always memorable, but Gabriel Vilardi's is going to go down in history.
The goal came just ten seconds into his first NHL shift as he beat Sergei Bobrovsky on his first shot of his first NHL game.
"It was pretty crazy, honestly," Vilardi said. "It wasn't a great shot, but it went in and that's what matters. It was really exciting."
The goal will go down as fastest first goal in NHL history, surpassing Gus Bodnar who scored 15 seconds into his first game with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1943.

Prior to being recalled earlier in the day, the 6'3" forward was one of the top performers on the Ontario Reign, recording 25 points (9-16=25) and a plus-4 rating in 32 games.
"He has earned the opportunity - it's not a charitable recall - he's certainly been one of the better players in Ontario and he has earned the right to come to the NHL to play," Todd McLellan said.
Like many of us, McLellan was excited to see the forward make his debut after preparing for the moment for such a long time.
"He's had a different path," McLellan said. "Quite often as a first rounder, you're given every opportunity. He had to go work for his because of injury. It's a big day for he and his family, we're excited about seeing him on the ice."
To make the moment even more special, his parents and brother were in attendance to witness the memorable milestone.

With the proverbial monkey off his back, Vilardi used the remainder of the game to find his stride. "We've have some good shifts," he said. "I'm settling down and just playing - it's fun."
