The LA Kings Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month 

On September 17^th, the LA Kings hosted community partner 24 Degrees of Color at the Toyota Sports Performance Center to celebrate the Latino and Hispanic Heritage of their youth players and families.

The players and their families were welcomed to the event with a mariachi and then participated in a practice led by the LA Kings Hockey Development team and Al Montoya, a former NHL goalie and the first Cuban American to play in the league. The players even decorated their gear and uniforms to express their cultural heritage!

Following the skate, the players and their families joined Al Montoya for a snack and chat where he shared his personal experiences as a Latino professional hockey player and answered the group’s questions. Between photos and autographs with Al Montoya, the group enjoyed food representing five different Latin American countries.

24 Degrees of Color aims to diversify ice skating and ice hockey in LA County by making these sports more accessible financially and introducing young people of color to recreational ice sports. To learn more about 24 Degrees of Color, please click here.

On October 9, Bailey and Ice Crew were welcomed at Para Los Niños Elementary for the first-ever Spanish reading of “B is for Bailey.” The group of first-graders explored the A-Zs of hockey through the book with Bailey cheering them on!

The Kings also welcomed 100 people from local nonprofits that serve Hispanic communities in LA, Homeboy Industries and HOLA, to their first home preseason game on October 3^rd.
