It's an eventful week for Matty Beniers, the Kraken's first-round selection (2nd overall) in last July's NHL Entry Draft. Tuesday, USA Hockey announced Beniers is one of the invitees to the Team USA training camp, which commences later this month.
The 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship will begin Dec. 26, 2021 in Edmonton and Red Deer, AB, with the gold-medal game slated for Jan. 5 at Rogers Place, home of the Edmonton Oilers.

Beniers scored a goal and added two assists plus strong two-way play in seven games to help the Americans win the 2021 World Junior gold medal in the Kraken prospect's 17-year-old birth year. The World Junior tournament is a national sensation in Canada and represents a strong indicator of young players' performance against imposing competition.

Wednesday, Beniers will get to attend in person to watch his future NHL franchise play in Detroit before returning to action for the University of Michigan against Bowling Green this Saturday. Beniers leads the powerhouse NCAA Division I school with 11 goals.
The U.S. has finished first five times but has never won back-to-back championships. The last team to do so was Canada, which won the last of five straight in 2009.
All games will be broadcast on NHL Network in the United States and TSN and RDS in Canada.
