The first official practices for the Kraken are fast approaching. The team announced Friday the inaugural training camp presented by Starbucks begins Sept. 23 at the Kraken Community Iceplex in Seattle's Northgate neighborhood.
That's less than two weeks from now. It marks the first day Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol and his coaching staff can work on ice with the team's roster of players. NHL franchises, including Seattle, typically allow players to informally skate in their training facilities-the workouts are called "captain's skates." Many Kraken players are already participating.

Sept. 23 is a notable milestone for the NHL's 32nd franchise. It marks the formal start of evaluating which 23 of 37 camp invitees will make the NHL roster before the Oct. 12 inaugural season opener at Vegas. NHL clubs dress 20 players for each game, including 18 skaters (forwards and defensemen) and two goaltenders.
