The Kraken acquired veteran forward Victor Rask from the Minnesota Wild for future considerations. The Wild will retain half of Rask's salary.
Rask has played in 488 NHL games over eight seasons with Carolina and Minnesota. His best years as a pro track with the four years that Kraken GM Ron Francis held the job with Carolina. Rask posted seasons of 33, 48, 45 and 31 points with a career-high 21 goals during the 2015-16 season.

In 29 games with the Wild this year, the Swedish-born Rask has notched five goals and eight assists. He scored 10 goals and added 13 assists over 54 games for Minnesota last season.
Rask was a Carolina Hurricanes second-round draft pick (14th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft, which was in the middle of an impressive run for Rask and his Swedish national teams. The country won silver medals at the 2010 and 2011 World U18 and gold at the 2012 World Junior Championship.
Rask split time between the Western Hockey League and American Hockey League for his first three post-draft seasons. He made the Carolina roster for opening night in 2014, going on to finish fourth among rookie scorers. In January 2019, Rask was traded to Minnesota in exchange for Nino Niederreiter.
Initially, Rask will report to AHL Charlotte, with Francis labeling the transaction a "depth move."
