As a September training camp approaches, the Kraken continue to shape their roster of players. The team announced agreeing to terms with forward Alex True, Seattle's selection from the San Jose Sharks as part of the Expansion Draft, and defenseman Connor Carrick, who has played 241 NHL games over seven seasons for Washington, Dallas and New Jersey.

True is familiar to Western Hockey League and Seattle Thunderbird fans. He played for the T-Birds for three seasons from 2014 to 2017, scoring 45 goals and adding 39 assists. He moved on the AHL San Jose Barracuda, where he recorded 28 points in his first pro season. He played 12 games for Sharks in 2019-20 and another seven this past season.
His two-way contract (one salary when playing for the Kraken and a different salary playing in the pro American Hockey League) is for one year at $750,000, which is also the average annual value (AAV) or salary cap hit.
The 6-foot-5, 205-pound center from Copenhagen, Denmark, has represented his home country in five world championship tournaments, including three consecutive seasons at the World Junior Championship. True was named captain for the 2017 tournament and earned the WJC Top-3 Player award in back-to-back seasons (2016 and 2017).

"Alex brings some size and skill to our team at the center position," said Ron Francis, Kraken GM. "He's young and has a successful hockey history in Seattle, scoring some big goals playing in the WHL with the Thunderbirds. We're looking forward to him continuing that success with our organization."
Carrick's NHL experience expands over eight seasons as a professional, following two years with the U.S. National Team Development Program, getting drafted by the Washington Capitals in 2012 (5th round, No. 137 overall) and one starring 2012-13 season (12 goals, 32 assists in 68 games) with the Plymouth Whalers of the elite Ontario Hockey League.
High points of Carrick's NHL journey includes a fast start to the 2018-19 season with the Dallas Stars, playing a solid 20 minutes of ice time per game before an injury derailed his spot in the lineup. He was moved to New Jersey at the trade deadline in 2019 and played 60 games for the Devils over the last three season, splitting time between the NHL and AHL.
The right-shooting Chicago area native has notched 13 goals and 36 assists in his 241 season, including a career-high 67 appearances with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016-17. Carrick agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract ($800,000 AAV).
"Connor is a mobile, dependable defenseman who will be helpful to our team in all facets of the game," said Francis. "His skillset and experience will make him a valuable asset to our organization."
