The Kraken continue to build a two-team depth chart this offseason, re-signing defenseman Gustav Olofsson to a one-year contract at an average annual value of $750,000. The two-way pays at the higher salary for NHL appearances and a lower salary for time spent competing for the American Hockey League affiliate Coachella Valley.
Olofsson appeared in 41 games for the AHL Charlotte Checkers last season, serving as an alternate captain and reliable defender on a split-squad of Kraken and Florida Panthers developing pros that won the AHL Atlantic Division title last season.
A highlight for the 6-foot-2, 200-pound D-man: He scored the winning goal in Game 1 to kickstart the Checkers winning their second-round playoff series against Bridgeport and veteran NHL goalie Cory Schneider. Olofsson beat Schneider with a wrist shot through several skaters with three minutes left in regulation.

Olofsson is NHL-tested himself. Drafted in the second round by Minnesota in 2013 (No. 46 overall), the Sweden native appeared in 56 games for the Wild over three seasons.
Olofsson has played at three levels of hockey, NCAA (Division I Colorado College), American Hockey League and NHL. Scouts like his hockey IQ and his willingness to play with physicality in all zones.
The 27-year-old was traded to Montreal in October 2018, appearing in three Canadiens contests but mostly playing for AHL Laval Rocket, contributing productive seasons as a reliable defenseman who can join the offensive attack by making plays and passes to set up goals.
Olofsson made his NHL debut as a 20-year-old in November 2015, a year after helping lead his native Sweden to a silver medal at the 2014 World Junior Championship as the squad's highest scoring defenseman. The left-shooting defenseman has played 203 AHL games with the Iowa Wild and Laval Rocket, totaling 11 goals and 60 assists.
