Let’s look at the game “by the numbers.”

  • This game ended with Seattle generating the majority of 5-on-5 shot volume (55.56%) but falling short in terms of shot quality (39.64%). A strong third period with 56.7-percent of all shot attempts coming off Kraken sticks in the final 20 minutes.
  • Dave Hakstol praised the consistent effort of the Yanni Gourde line in this game. In 14:22 of ice time, they tilted the ice heavily for the Kraken generating 81.1-percent of all shot volume and 66.9-percent of all shot quality. The only other line to be on the plus side in both measures was the new look line Brandon Tanev and Jared McCann centered by Alex Wennberg.
  • Gourde led all skaters in rush chances (2) and controlled entries (8).
  • Adam Larsson had eight shot attempts, seven of which were on target and Oliver Bjorkstrand fired the puck 14 times – six were shots on goal. On the season as a whole Bjorkstrand and Larsson rank first and third respectively in 5-on-5 shot attempts (Jared McCann is second). Bjorkstrand also generated the most individual shot quality in this game.
  • According to Natural Stat Trick, the Habs generated enough offense to have 3.69 goals in all situations, meaning Philipp Grubauer exceeded expectations. It would suggest that the eye test tells us he was far more impactful than that with big save after big save. As Jared McCann said, it would have been 5-0 in the first period without Grubauer’s play.
  • The Kraken created eight scoring chances off turnovers but allowed nine by Montreal.
