A look at the game “by the numbers.”
- It was an earned win by Seattle. In 5-on-5 play they generated more shot volume than Vegas (51.3%) and 55.67-percent of all shot quality. Impressively, the share of quality that the Kraken created increased period over period with the final 20 minutes showing as their strongest.
- Vegas created enough shot quality to deserve at least two goals, but Joey Daccord turned away all 69 pucks sent his way on the way to his second-ever NHL shutout. His play was good enough to count as his eleventh-quality start of the season.
- Special teams time was hard to come by with two teams that rank in the top four in fewest penalties taken (Seattle is third, Vegas is fourth), but the Kraken penalty kill was again perfect for the second straight game and the ninth time in the last 12.
- According to Game Score, the five top players in the game were: Eeli Tolvanen, Yanni Gourde, Daccord, Will Borgen, and Oliver Bjorkstrand. Kraken skaters held nine of the top ten spots.
- It’s fitting that Gourde’s line all made the top five. Gourde and Tolvanen each had goals (the latter was the game-winner), and Bjorkstrand was instrumental in setting up Borgen’s score. Gourde led all Kraken skaters in slot shots (3), Tolvanen led in cycle chances (3) and Bjorkstrand was instrumental in transition with four controlled entries and eight controlled exits.
- The Gourde line also tilted the ice the Kraken’s way more than any other. They had 65.71-percent of all shot attempts in 11:37 of ice time and a whopping 85.5-percent of all shot quality.
- For every Kraken player who earned a point in this game, it was their first ever in an outdoor game.
