Seattle Kraken Agree to Terms with Vince Dunn on Four-Year Contract

SEATTLE, Wash. - July 21, 2023 -Today, the Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken) announced that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Vince Dunn on a four-year contract ($7.35 million AAV).

Dunn, 26, won the Pete Muldoon Award as the Kraken's Most Valuable Player after finishing the 2022-23 season with 64 points (14 goals, 50 assists) in 81 regular-season games, setting career highs in nearly every offensive category: goals, assists, points, points per game (0.79), even-strength goals (14), even-strength points (49) and power-play points (15). His 50 assists led the Kraken and he ranked second on Seattle's roster in even-strength points and power-play points (tied). Dunn finished the 2022-23 campaign ranked 10th among all NHL defensemen in goals (tied), assists and points (tied). He ranked second among NHL blueliners in both even-strength goals (tied) and even-strength points. Dunn added seven points (one goal, six assists) in 14 playoff games with the Kraken, matching his postseason career high in assists.

Dunn, who stands at six-foot and 200 pounds, has totaled 201 points (53 goals, 148 assists) in 421 regular-season games with the Kraken and the St. Louis Blues. He has recorded at least 20 points in each NHL season that he has played and has eclipsed the 30-point plateau three times (2018-19, 2021-22 and 2022-23). Since making his NHL debut in 2017-18, Dunn in one of 35 blueliners to total at least 200 points, and he is the fifth-highest scoring defenseman from the 2015 draft class. In 43 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, Dunn has recorded 18 points (three goals, 15 assists) and was a part of St. Louis' 2019 Stanley Cup-winning team.

Prior to making his NHL debut, Dunn spent the 2016-17 season with the Chicago Wolves, the Blues' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. He recorded 45 points (13 goals, 32 assists) in 72 games en route to being selected to play in the AHL All-Star Game. His 45 points led all Chicago defensemen and tied for ninth among AHL blueliners. The Peterborough, Ontario, native spent the previous three seasons (2013-14 to 2015-16) playing for the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Dunn led all rookie OHL defensemen in scoring his first year with the IceDogs and was named the team's Top Defenseman of the Year in both 2015 and 2016. Dunn was originally selected by St. Louis is the second round (56th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. He was Seattle's selection from St. Louis in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft.
