SEATTLE, Wash. - July 13, 2022 - Today, the Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken) announced that they have signed forward Shane Wright to a three-year, entry-level contract. Wright was selected with the fourth-overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and is the team's first pick from the 2022 NHL Draft class to sign with his club.
"This is a big day for the Kraken," said Kraken General Manager Ron Francis. "Shane's junior career speaks for itself and his skill and hockey sense in all three zones are special for someone his age. We see him as an important part of our future and are excited to officially sign him to his first NHL contract."

"I couldn't be happier to be in Seattle and be a part of the Kraken organization," Wright said. "Getting to see the city for the first time this week, I can't wait to get back here and get to work. It was truly an honor to be drafted by the Kraken, but this is just the beginning and I'm really excited about what lies ahead."
Wright totaled 94 points (32 goals, 62 assists) in 63 regular-season games for Kingston while serving as his team's captain. The six-foot, 198-pound forward ranked second on his team in assists, points and game-winning goals (tied, five), and also ranked in the top 10 in the OHL in scoring (eighth) and assists (sixth). He added 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 11 postseason games that saw the Frontenacs advance to the second round of the OHL playoffs, ranking third on Kingston's roster in playoff scoring. His 2021-22 campaign saw him be named the Canadian Hockey League top prospect of the year and earn All-OHL Third Team honors. He entered the draft as NHL Central Scouting's top-ranked North American skater.
The 18-year-old has spent the last three seasons with Kingston, totaling 160 points (71 goals, 89 assists) in 121 regular-season OHL games. He entered the OHL during the 2019-20 season after becoming the sixth player in league history to earn "exceptional player status," a designation granted to 15-year-olds that allows them to play in the Ontario Hockey League as an underage player. Posted 66 points (33 goals, 27 assists) in 58 regular-season games during his rookie campaign in 2019-20 en route to earning several accolades including: Canadian Hockey League Rookie of the Year, OHL First Team All-Rookie, OHL leading goals and points scorer and OHL Rookie of the Year (Emms Family Award). Wright was slated to play for current Seattle Kraken assistant coach Paul McFarland, who was the head coach of the Kingston Frontenacs, before the OHL 2020-21 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Burlington, Ontario native has also represented Canada in international competition at the 2021 U18 World Junior Championship where he won a gold medal and was named a top-three player on his team after recording 14 points (nine goals, five assists) in five games. Wright also played in two games for Team Canada at the 2022 World Junior Championship prior to the tournament being shut down due to Covid-19 concerns.
Wright is currently participating in the Kraken's first-ever development camp, which will continue on through July 14 at Kraken Community Iceplex.
