"I want to thank Calle for everything he did for the Kraken," Seattle GM Ron Francis said. "We wish him all the best in Calgary."
Jarnkrok didn't score his first goal for the Kraken until a Nov. 21 win over the Washington Capitals. But he delivered quality defensive play all season (regularly drawing praise about his hockey IQ from head coach Dave Hakstol).
He has been a steady scorer since the first Seattle goal. He departs for the Flames with 12 goals on the year, a pace that portends him scoring a career-high 20 goals or higher if you consider the dozen goals in the last 32 games.
"Jarny is a guy that's got a real good defensive DNA," Hakstol said in early March. "He just understands and sees the game from that side, as well as the offensive side ... he is very comfortable playing down low defensively. He has pretty good poise with the puck to be able to get us out of the zone and those tighter spots."
Hakstol added some comments after Wednesday's game: "Calle is an outstanding two-way player, well respected quietly as leader. He is absolutely no maintenance as a player. He is going to get a good opportunity to play a good role on a good team."
