One: Schwartz to the Net

Veteran forward Jaden Schwartz now leads the Kraken in goals this season with four. And if there was a statistical category for net-front presence and effectiveness, Schwartz would be a top finisher in that skill set too. Along with scoring the first two goals in Tuesday's rousing overtime win at Detroit, Schwartz finished his night achieving the perfect screen on Red Wings goalie Ville Husso to support a highlight-reel shot and late-tying goal in regulation from Jaren McCann. He’s a player to watch Thursday on a line with Alex Wennberg and Oliver Bjorkstrand, plus his continued tendency to go net-front on power plays to tip in/redirect longer shots and disrupt the goaltender’s lines of sight.

“He just does a lot of little things right that a lot of people don't see, a lot of wall plays and puck battles won,” said fellow alternate captain Jordan Eberle when asked about Schwartz’s big night in Detroit Tuesday by ROOT Sports’ Piper Shaw post-game. “He's a guy you want to play with because he's progressing the play up the ice and he obviously has some finish.”

“Some guys have elite shots,” said Schwartz. “They can score from the outside a little bit more. For me, I just find I am more effective around the net and creating some havoc and trigger some rebounds.”

Morning Sound: Prior to Thursday's rematch against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, NC, Matty Beniers and Coach Dave Hakstol discuss the team's emotional overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

Two: Kartye Joins Beniers Line, Looks Like He Might Stay Awhile

Rookie Tye Kartye, who scored his second goal of this first-ever NHL regular season for him, looked strong in all areas Tuesday. Most notable was tenacious forechecking on every shift, including some big hits. He also generated scoring chances and hit a crossbar while fending off opposing defenseman.

Some fans are no doubt thinking, hey, let’s keep the two young guys together and see how it unfolds for, say, um six to eight seasons ahead. That’s jumping a few squares on the chess board, but for this road trip, it starting out strong for the Beniers line. Beniers looked highly motivated and on his puck-battle game Tuesday and Seattle can only hope that trend continues. Beniers' work on the boards led directly to two crucial goals scored Tuesday.

“We just picked up where we did in the playoffs,” said Jordan Eberle, the third member of the Beniers line that welcomed Kartye. “For the most part, we won a lot of battles. That was the biggest thing and then we found a way to create out of it. Hopefully, we will draw some momentum from the win.”

Three: Know Your Foe: Carolina (3-4-0) on Three-Game Losing Streak

After dropping a 7-4 final at Climate Pledge Arena a week ago, Carolina has lost two more games, including a shutout in Tampa on Monday. They will be hungry for a rematch with the Kraken and get back to an even .500 with a victory. But the Hurricanes will have to do it without rock-solid defenseman Brent Pesce, who plays top-four minutes while it appears Hurricanes star center Sebastian Aho will be in uniform after not appearing against Seattle last Thursday. He returned from injury in Monday’s showdown with the Lightning.
