Hey Bolts Nation,
I’m Benjamin Pierce, the new beat writer for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Today marks my first day in my new role, and I can’t wait to get to work sharing stories that help bring the greatest game on the planet to fans like you.
This new chapter of working for the Lightning and covering the NHL is truly my dream job.
I grew up in West Salem, Wisconsin, where I played hockey through high school. My father used to wake up around 5 a.m. and drive us down to the local arena, where he would hop on the Zamboni and clean the ice so that my brother and I could have our own version of a morning skate. When winter weather closed school, we were at the rink all day.
The sport is one of my greatest passions. As most young hockey players do, I always hoped to play in the NHL or work in the league in some capacity.
In my adult life, I have enjoyed coaching youth hockey and sharing my love of the game with future generations while also utilizing another great passion of mine—writing and journalism—to grow the sport. I am a dedicated fan of the NHL and often spend late nights watching games, seeing the highlights of the day or reading the latest news from across the league.
I have worked for multiple newspapers across Wisconsin for the last 10 years.
I enjoy telling stories that matter to people. I strive to help grow the game, share the latest news and information regarding the Lightning and bring you the stories you can’t find anywhere else.
My first NHL game was in Amalie Arena while on family vacation as a child, so to be working in the rink that offered my first glimpse of professional hockey is a full circle opportunity. My first favorite NHL player was former Tampa Bay captain Martin St. Louis.
I am thrilled for this opportunity with the Lightning, and I promise to bring my high energy and passion for hockey every day. I look forward to interacting with the fanbase and being part of one of the greatest franchises in the NHL.
Stay safe this week, and let’s get to work!
