TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forward Otto Somppi to a one-year, two-way contract, vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced.

Somppi, 23, skated in 32 games with the Syracuse Crunch last season, posting 12 goals and 26 points to go along with a +16 rating and 22 penalty minutes. The Helsinki, Finland native ranked tied for first on Syracuse for goals and was third for points. He set career highs last season for goals, assists (14) and points. Somppi posted a pair of four-point games (two goals, two assists) on April 17 and April 21. He also appeared in nine games with the Lahti Pelicans in the Finnish League in 2020-21, registering a goal and three points.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward has skated in 104 career AHL games, all with the Crunch over the past three seasons, collecting 19 goals and 48 points. Somppi has also played in 21 career ECHL games with the Orlando Solar Bears during the 2018-19 season, recording 12 goals and 24 points. He represented Finland at the 2017 World Jr. Championships and skated in five tournament games, notching one goal.
Somppi was originally drafted by the Lightning in the seventh round, 206th overall, at the 2016 NHL Draft.
