2023DRAFTPICK IF NO PICTURE WEB

After sending a fourth-round pick in 2024 to the Nashville Predators in exchange for a fourth-round pick (115th overall) in this year's draft, the Tampa Bay Lightning selected Jayson Shaugabay, a 5-foot-9, 168-pound center from Warroad High School in Minnesota. The 18-year-old forward was ranked 55th among all North American skaters in the NHL Central Scouting's final rankings. The draft pick in 2024 that Tampa Bay traded to Nashville was acquired from Chicago in the trade for Brandon Hagel in 2022.

Shaugabay was named Minnesota's Mr. Hockey this past season after posting 96 points in 31 games with 33 goals and 63 assists. He finished his high school hockey career as Warroad's all-time leading scorer with 304 points (114G, 190A) in just 110 games played, passing Washington Capitals forward TJ Oshie during his senior season.

Shaugabay also saw action in the USHL last season with the Green Bay Gamblers, recording 16 points in 27 games with three goals and 13 helpers. He is committed to play college hockey at University of Minnesota-Duluth.
