The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed centre Jason Spezza to a one-year contract extension. The value of the contract is worth $700,000.

Spezza, 37, skated in 58 regular season games with Toronto last season, recording 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists). The Toronto, Ontario native has registered 940 points (341 goals, 599 assists) in 1,123 regular season games and 70 points (25 goals, 45 assists) in 85 playoff games with the Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Internationally, Spezza has represented Canada at the IIHF World Championships four times (2008, 2009, 2011, 2015), the IIHF World Junior Championships three times (2000, 2001, 2002) and the Spengler Cup in 2012.
Spezza was originally drafted by Ottawa with the second overall selection in the 2001 NHL Draft.
