Leafs Name Laurence Gilman Assistant General Manager

Kyle Dubas, General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that Laurence Gilman has been named Assistant General Manager. Gilman will share the role along with current Assistant General Manager Brandon Pridham.
"Laurence provides terrific experience to our management team," said Dubas. "His 20-plus years in the NHL have seen him manage nearly every type of department in professional hockey and have success doing so."
"Adding Laurence to our front office and having him work alongside Brandon Pridham as an Assistant General Manager gives our program great depth and breadth of knowledge across all areas of hockey operations. We feel very fortunate to have both Brandon and Laurence as key parts of our executive team."

In his role, Gilman will hold multiple responsibilities, including player personnel, managing the club's player development department and farm system, and overseeing the organization's top prospects as General Manager of the team's AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, starting in the 2018-19 season.
In 2016, Gilman served on the NHL's Expansion Draft Rules & Regulations Committee. In this capacity, he helped formulate and design the rules and regulations for the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft.
From 2008 to 2015, Gilman worked with the Vancouver Canucks organization. He most recently served as the club's Vice President of Hockey Operations & Assistant General Manager and was the club's chief negotiator of all player contracts and oversaw the amateur scouting staff.
Prior to joining the Canucks, Gilman was with the Phoenix Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets organization for 13 years and served as the club's Senior Vice President & Assistant General Manager from 2002 to 2007. During his time with the organization, Gilman also served as General Manager of the AHL's San Antonio Rampage and Utah Grizzlies.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 1991 then attended the University of North Dakota School of Law. He received his Juris Doctorate in 1994 and was admitted to the State Bar of Minnesota in 1995.
Gilman, 53, and his wife, Michelle, have two children, Tyler and Samantha.
