With temperatures climbing outdoors on Saturday, the action was heating up Saturday at the Maple Leafs Return To Play training camp.
It was the second matchup of "A House Divided," the Leafs five-game scrimmage series pitting Team Matthews against Team Andersen.
After Freddie's squad won the first game of the series with a thrilling, back-and-forth 6-5 win on Wednesday, Auston's side stormed back today, tying the series up.
Stirring memories of the Next Generation Game in December, Jason Spezza opened the scoring early to give Team Andersen an early lead, looking to build momentum off Wednesday's win.
Team Matthews didn't waste much time in responding though, as Auston found a streaking William Nylander, springing him on a breakaway to tie the game.
From there, Team Matthews kept the pressure up, with Kenny Agostino making a great spinning setup to Denis Malgin and putting their side ahead 2-1.
Nick Robertson extended the lead as he raced to a loose puck and broke in alone before Matthews and Nylander connected again on a long stretch pass and breakaway goal.
Alex Kerfoot cut into the deficit for Team Andersen late in the game, putting away the rebound off of a Morgan Rielly point shot, but it proved too little, too late as Team Matthews wound up winning 6-2.
After the matchup, Andersen quickly turned his attention towards tomorrow's third game with the series all squared up.
"We'll try to win the next game, obviously best-of-3 series now, so we've got to recover and reset here."
Though bragging rights are on the line, the most important thing is using the scrimmages to bring speed, tempo and competitiveness into camp early.
"A good way to bring some competitiveness into this training camp," Andersen said Saturday.
