The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed defenceman John Klingberg to a one-year contract worth $4.15 million.
In 2022-23, Klingberg posted 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) in 50 games with the Anaheim Ducks before he was traded to the Minnesota Wild on March 3. The Gothenburg, Sweden native recorded nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 17 regular season games with the Wild before adding one goal and three assists in four postseason contests.
In 619 career regular season games with Minnesota, Anaheim, and Dallas, the 30-year-old has recorded 407 points (81 goals, 326 assists) while collecting 39 points (eight goals, 31 assists) in 63 playoff games.
Internationally, he has represented Sweden at several major tournaments, capturing gold medals at the 2018 and 2017 IIHF World Championships as well as the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Klingberg was originally selected by the Stars in the fifth round (131st overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft.
