Mrazek's value spikes after trade to Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired goaltender Petr Mrazek from the Detroit Red Wings on Monday, making him a must-add fantasy player in standard leagues. The move comes after Michal Neuvirth sustained a lower-body injury against the New York Rangers on Sunday.
With Neuvirth and Brian Elliott (core muscle surgery) each expected to miss weeks, Mrazek becomes the short-term starter for a Stanley Cup Playoff contender. He's in the final year of his contract and could become a restricted free agent July 1.
Mrazek (26 percent owned, 228th in Yahoo) is 6-3-2 with a .924 save percentage and two shutouts in 12 games since Dec. 19. His season peripherals are mediocre, but it's worth noting he's tied with Carter Hutton (St. Louis Blues), Juuse Saros (Nashville Predators) and Darcy Kuemper (Los Angeles Kings) for the most shutouts (three) among backup/time-share goaltenders.

The 26-year-old has underachieved in fantasy since going 27-16-6 in 2015-16 to finish 68th overall (13th among goalies) in Yahoo. That said, the Flyers undoubtedly looked highly upon Mrazek's late-season track record: he's 4-6 with a 1.88 goals-against average, .931 SV% and three shutouts in 10 postseason games and 3-2-1 with a 1.88 GAA, .938 SV% and two shutouts in seven regular-season games in April.
Although the Flyers have the fourth-worst penalty kill percentage (75.0) in the NHL, it's encouraging that their goaltenders have combined for the fifth-best 5-on-5 save percentage (.931) behind the Nashville Predators (.935), Los Angeles Kings (.933), Tampa Bay Lightning (.933) and St. Louis Blues (.932).
Beyond Mrazek, the trade negatively affects the rest-of-season value of Neuvirth and Elliott once either returns from injury because of the time-share competition that would arise. Alex Lyon (2 percent), who relieved Neuvirth on Sunday and earned his first NHL win, is the backup for now after the Mrazek trade.

For the Red Wings, Howard (47 percent, 331st in Yahoo) remains in the lower tier of full-time starting goaltenders after the Mrazek trade. Detroit could also recall Jared Coreau from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League. Coreau, 26, is 20-10-4 with a .916 SV% and two shutouts in 36 AHL games and had mixed results in 14 NHL games last season (5-4-3, 3.46 GAA, .887 SV%, two shutouts).
The Flyers have 23 games remaining, 12 at home and seven against non-contending teams (two vs. Montreal Canadiens; two vs. New York Rangers; one each vs. Ottawa Senators, Red Wings, Florida Panthers). Mrazek is 3-0-3 with a .911 SV% and one shutout in seven games against the Metropolitan Division, and the Flyers have 11 more games against divisional opponents.
From a DFS standpoint, Mrazek is priced at $6,900 in DraftKings although he isn't expected to start against the Canadiens on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSP, RDS, TSN2, NHL.TV). His DFS price is worth monitoring moving forward.
