Vegas Golden Knights key statistics

1. Alex Pietrangelo's power-play points

Pietrangelo, who signed a seven-year contract Oct. 12, scored 22 power-play points with the St. Louis Blues last season, tied for sixth in the NHL with Victor Hedman of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The defenseman's 6.09 power-play points per 60 minutes ranked sixth at the position among those who averaged at least two power-play minutes per game. His production contributed to the Blues' power-play success; at 24.3 percent, St. Louis ranked third in the NHL behind the Edmonton Oilers (29.5) and the Boston Bruins (25.2) during the regular season. The Golden Knights had the ninth-ranked power play (22.0) but could finish among the top five with the addition of Pietrangelo this season.

2. Shot attempts percentage

The Golden Knights ranked first in the NHL with a 54.8 SAT percentage during the regular season, out-attempting their opponents 3,566 to 2,945 for a league-leading plus-621 shot attempts differential. Defenseman Shea Theodore's plus-412 led the NHL, and forward Max Pacioretty's plus-365 was fourth. Vegas also ranked first in the postseason with a 58.9 SAT percentage. Right wing Alex Tuch's plus-131 SAT differential led Vegas in the postseason and was fifth in the NHL. One potential concern for the Golden Knights is the departure of defenseman Nate Schmidt, who was traded to the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 13. Schmidt's plus-128 SAT differential was third at his position in the postseason behind Hedman (plus-145) and Ryan McDonagh (plus-130) of the Lightning.

3. Robin Lehner's save percentage

Lehner's .920 save percentage was tied for third in the NHL with Ben Bishop of the Dallas Stars among those who played at least 35 games last season. Under the same parameters, Lehner's .922 even-strength save percentage was tied for ninth with Jordan Binnington of the Blues and his .918 save percentage when facing an opposing team's power play was tied for first with Martin Jones of the San Jose Sharks. Having Lehner, who was acquired in a trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 24, for a full season should help the Golden Knights improve on their .912 5-on-5 save percentage during the regular season, which was tied for 25th with the Carolina Hurricanes, Oilers and Maple Leafs.
