Hill signs 2-year, $9.8 million contract to remain with Golden Knights

Adin Hill signed a two-year, $9.8 million contract to remain with the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday. It has an average annual value of $4.9 million.

The 27-year-old goalie was 16-7-1 with a 2.50 goals-against average and .915 save percentage in 27 regular-season games (25 starts) for the Golden Knights this season and 11-4 with a 2.17 GAA, .932 save percentage and two shutouts in the Stanley Cup Playoffs to help them win the Stanley Cup.

Selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round (No. 76) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Hill is 45-39-6 with a 2.67 GAA, .910 save percentage and five shutouts in 101 regular-season games (88 starts) for the Golden Knights, San Jose Sharks and Coyotes.

The signing comes one day after the Golden Knights signed forward Ivan Barbashev to a 5-year contract ($5 million AAV) and traded forward Reilly Smith to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a third-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. Barbashev had 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in 23 games after he was acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 26 and had 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 22 playoff games. He could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Vegas has two other goalies who can become unrestricted free agents July 1; Jonathan Quick and Laurent Brossoit. Quick, 37, did not play in the playoffs but was 5-2-2 with a 3.13 GAA, .901 save percentage and one shutout in 10 games (nine starts) for the Golden Knights after he was acquired in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 2.

Brossoit, 30, began the season as the backup for the Golden Knights, but started their first eight games in the playoffs before getting injured. He was 5-2 with a 3.18 GAA and .894 save percentage in the postseason after going 7-0-3 with a 2.17 GAA and .927 save percentage in 11 regular-season games (10 starts).

Vegas also has goalie Logan Thompson signed for the next two seasons. The 26-year-old was 21-13-3 with a 2.65 GAA, .915 save percentage and two shutouts in 37 games (36 starts) this season but did not play after March 23 because of an injury.
