SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Ottawa Senators forward prospect Drake Batherson scored five goals for the North Division and was named most valuable player at the 2019 AHL All-Star Challenge at MassMutual Center on Monday.

Batherson, a fourth-round pick (No. 121) at the 2017 NHL Draft, had six points (one goal, five assists) for Belleville in the three games leading into the All-Star break. The 20-year-old has 31 points (nine goals, 22 assists) in 31 AHL games.
Each of the AHL's four divisions (Atlantic, North, Central, Pacific) competed in the AHL Challenge, a 3-on-3 round-robin tournament. The North Division won the championship game against the Atlantic Division in a 2-1 shootout victory. Toronto Maple Leafs forward prospect Trevor Moore scored the deciding goal in the fourth round.
"For a skill guy like me, it's nice to get a lot of 2-on-1 [plays] and breakaways," Batherson said.
Batherson (6-foot-3, 187 pounds) played 17 NHL games earlier this season for the Senators and had eight points (three goals, five assists).
"It was great getting my feet wet and seeing what it's like up [in Ottawa]," Batherson said. "Coming back down, I know what I have to do to get back up there and that's what I've been focusing on.
"I think consistency has been the biggest thing for me, so that's what I've been focusing on night in and night out. (Belleville coach Troy Mann) has been a huge [help]."
Defenseman prospects Sean Walker (Los Angeles Kings/Ontario) John Gilmour (New York Rangers/Hartford) each had a hat trick. Defenseman Calle Rosen (Toronto) had five assists.
Florida Panthers goalie prospect Sam Montembeault represented the hometown team (Springfield) and made 17 saves on 21 shots for the Atlantic Division.
"It was a great experience," Montembeault said.
Selected by the Panthers in the third round (No. 77) of the 2015 NHL Draft, the 22-year-old has been a workhorse for Springfield; he is 13-10-7 with a 3.06 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in 31 games.
Montembeault (6-3, 208) earned enough faith from Panthers management that they traded goalie Michael Hutchinson to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 29.
"It's going a lot better on and off the ice," said Montembeault, who had an .896 save percentage in 41 AHL games last season.
Montembeault split time Monday with Vitek Vanecek of Hershey (Washington Capitals). Vanecek led all goalies in the event with 18 saves on 20 shots.
The AHL's All-Star festivities will be held in California for the first time next season. Ontario will host.
