goalie goal split

What's more fun than a goalie goal?
A goalie goal in the playoffs.

St. Louis Blues prospect Joel Hofer sent one about 195 feet across the entire ice and into the empty net for the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League in the Calder Cup Playoffs on Thursday.

The Thunderbirds beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 6-2. The victory gave the Thunderbirds a 2-0 series lead in the
AHL Atlantic Division Semifinals
.
Hofer's goal started making the rounds on social media for good reason.
"I told myself like 'Don't go for it,'" Hofer said

by the Thunderbirds. "Playoffs, obviously big game, like preserve the lead kind of thing. But then, I got the puck and I handled it well and I had more time than I thought."
After the goal, Hofer got to keep the puck and was given the team's player of the game award.

He even went out to the crowd with the T-shirt cannon afterward.

The messages are already pouring in for the young goaltender.
"I haven't gotten to answer any, but my phone is blowing up quite a bit," he said.
To boot, it was the first-ever professional playoff start of Hofer's career. He was asked how can he possibly top it.
"Maybe a championship? That'd be even better," he said.
