7-18 Alex Galchenyuk

Alex Galchenyuk said he has checked himself into the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.

The 29-year-old forward announced it via his Twitter account Tuesday.

Galchenyuk had his contract terminated by the Arizona Coyotes on Friday after multiple reports that the Scottsdale Police Department confirmed he was facing charges from a July 9 arrest that included private property hit and run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest and threatening or intimidating.

"My behavior last week was deeply offensive, uncalled for, horrendous, embarrassing, disrespectful and just plan awful," Galchenyuk wrote in a letter to the Coyotes, his teammates and his fans that he shared on Twitter.. "I let you down and I am truly sorry. While this behavior after drinking alcohol is not representative of who I am, I do have to take responsibility for it. My actions have cost me a chance to do what I love, play professional hockey.

"By checking myself into the NHL/NHLPA Assistance Program, I hope to get the help I need and to ensure I never make a mistake like this again."

Galchenyuk did not have a point in 11 games with the Colorado Avalanche last season and had 42 points (16 goals, 26 assists) in 42 games with the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League.

He was placed on waivers by the Avalanche and signed a one-year contract with the Coyotes on July 1.

Selected by the Montreal Canadiens with the No. 3 pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, Galchenyuk has 354 points (146 goals, 208 assists) in 654 regular-season games for the Canadiens, Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Avalanche, and 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) in 38 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Galchenyuk, who played for the Coyotes in 2018-19 and 2021-22, has played for seven NHL teams over the past six seasons.
