"It's been a great season, and I'm thrilled to lock that in and be with this team, this organization moving forward," Goligoski said. "I've enjoyed every second since I've been here, so it was an easy decision."
The 36-year-old defenseman could have been an unrestricted free agent after this season. He has scored 28 points (two goals, 26 assists) in 58 games, his first season with the Wild after agreeing to a one-year, $5 million contract July 28.
"He's a big part of our hockey club and a big part of our identity and a big part of our room," Minnesota coach Dean Evason said. "He's a real solid person and obviously a great player in this league for a long time and will continue now with us for the next couple of years."
Goligoski, a native of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, attended the University of Minnesota from 2004-07.
"It's home. You know, I think everyone has that desire to play for their home state at some point if they have a team that plays there," he said after signing in July. "And I think it's a great fit for me. I think the team's good too. That was the main thing for me was I want to play some winning hockey and have a chance. ... Just really impressive, so I think it's going to be a great fit and [I'm] excited."
Selected in the second round (No. 61) of the 2004 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Goligoski has scored 457 points (85 goals, 372 assists) in 982 regular-season games for the Penguins, Dallas Stars, Arizona Coyotes and Wild. He won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2009 and has scored 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) in 43 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
