Colorado Avalanche forward Alex Newhook kept his own blog throughout the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He checked in regularly with behind-the-scenes access.
In his final entry, Newhook discusses winning the Stanley Cup, the first for the Avalanche in 21 seasons, after a 2-1 victory against the Lightning in Game 6 at Amalie Arena on Sunday.
He talks about the excruciating wait for the game to end while Colorado nursed a one-goal lead, the pride in winning it for the veterans on the team and to be able to celebrate with friends and family, as well as his excitement to bring the trophy to his hometown of St. John's, Newfoundland, during the offseason.

I can't even explain what this feels like. I just can't. World champions. It's crazy to think about. I can't even believe it. It's amazing.
It's especially cool to be able to share it with so many people. My girlfriend, my sister, my cousin and a few of my buddies are here. Unfortunately, my mom and dad couldn't make it down, but we will have some celebrating to do for sure when I get home.
It took forever to get to this point. That third period was so long. You get to that point, winning the game, and you keep looking at the clock, 10 minutes left, five minutes, two minutes left. We found a way to get it done and now we are champs. Like I said, it's just an amazing thing and a great feeling.

We knew in this game we had to stick to the way we play, play our game, and we have done that all playoffs, and we got back to it in the third period tonight, and that won us the game.
When it was over, there was so much to take in. Seeing Gabriel Landeskog go and get the Stanley Cup was huge. Andrew Cogliano was a big one, seeing him lift the Cup, guys like that. It's so cool to finally be a part of that. Andrew has been such a good mentor for me and he hadn't won the Cup, so it was really good to see him get one. You know, with Erik Johnson getting that Cup first from Landeskog, he's put his heart and soul into this organization, and to see Erik get it here is awesome.
Tonight is going to be exciting to be with the guys and with family and celebrate what we have done. World champions.
I've already started thinking about the Stanley Cup coming to Newfoundland. I remember last time it was there. I was just a kid and it was amazing. Now, I get to do it. I'm already excited about it. We'll get some fish and chips going and hit George Street. It's going to be really exciting.
Thanks for reading my thoughts throughout the Stanley Cup Final. It's been an incredible journey.
