Facts and Figures: Ovechkin climbs NHL power-play goals list

Forwards Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Brad Marchand of the Boston Bruins each moved up on an all-time NHL list Monday.

Ovechkin, who has led the NHL in power-play goals for a League-record six seasons, scored his fifth man-advantage goal this season and the 234th of his career in Washington's 4-2 win against the visiting Edmonton Oilers. Ovechkin moved into a tie with Marcel Dionne (234) for eighth place on the all-time list, and is two behind Mario Lemieux (236) for seventh. Since making his NHL debut in 2005-06, Ovechkin has scored 99 more power-play goals than anyone in the League; Thomas Vanek of the Detroit Red Wings and Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins are tied for second with 135.
Marchand scored the 13th overtime goal of his NHL career to give the Bruins a 2-1 win against the Dallas Stars at TD Garden. He is the Bruins' all-time leader in career OT goals and is among five players tied for 10th in NHL history. Marchand is fourth among active players in overtime goals behind Ovechkin (22), Sidney Crosby of the Penguins (14) and Ilya Kovalchuk of the Los Angeles Kings (14).

First NHL hat trick special for Boyle

Forward Brian Boyle had his first NHL hat trick in his 705th game, helping the New Jersey Devils to a 5-1 victory at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday.
Boyle, who told NHL.com on Oct. 24 that his cancer is in remission, scored three goals on Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night in Pittsburgh for his first hat trick in his 12th NHL season. Boyle's wife, Lauren, is the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer Ambassador for 2018-19.
He is the 23rd player in NHL history to get his first hat trick after skating in at least 700 NHL games. Four of those have come since the start of the 2011-12 season: Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2017-18 (738 games played), Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators in 2015-16 (711), Brad Richards of the New York Rangers in 2012-13 (896) and Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2011-12 (1,161).

Giroux continues to build legacy with Flyers

Giroux had two goals and an assist for a three-point night in his 753rd game with the Philadelphia Flyers, a 5-2 road victory against the Arizona Coyotes.
Giroux tied Chris Therien for fourth on the Flyers' all-time list for games played. The three-point night was the 49th of his NHL career, a number accomplished by eight other players in Flyers history. Bobby Clarke (110) has the most.

Islanders GM Lamoriello joins 2,400-game club

Lou Lamoriello of the New York Islanders became the third general manager in NHL history to reach 2,400 games, trailing only David Poile (2,718) and Glen Sather (2,700). Lamoriello, a three-time Stanley Cup champion (1995, 2000 and 2003 with the New Jersey Devils), is also third among GMs in wins with 1,219, behind Poile (1,344) and Sather (1,319).
