Podcast Ovechkin 3.16

Alex Ovechkin's historic goal, the Washington Capitals hot streak and all the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline talk you can get is featured on this week's edition of the "NHL @TheRink" podcast.

Tom Gulitti, NHL.com's Washington-based staff writer, joined co-hosts Dan Rosen and Shawn P. Roarke, giving perspective on Ovechkin scoring his 767th goal for the Capitals on Wednesday to move past Jaromir Jagr and for third place on the NHL goals list.
Ovechkin, who has scored 37 goals this season, trails only Gordie Howe (802) and Wayne Gretzky (894).
Rosen, Roarke and Gulitti also talked about Washington being 5-0-1 since general manager Brian MacLellan said on March 2 that he may have a less aggressive approach toward the deadline because the Capitals were playing like a middle-tier team.
They went into reasons why the Vegas Golden Knights have lost five games in a row and are 4-10-1 in their past 15 games, and what it means for their approach to the trade deadline, which is Monday at 3 p.m.
Claude Giroux was a big topic too. The forward will play in his 1,000th game, all with the Philadelphia Flyers, on Thursday, and afterward a decision on his future with the team will be made.
Giroux is a pending unrestricted free agent who has a no-move clause, putting him in control of the process. Where would he fit if he were to be traded and why he wouldn't want to be traded were two of the many questions debated by Rosen, Roarke and Gulitti.
Roarke argued for loyalty, saying he doesn't think Giroux staying with the Flyers would be out of line. Rosen said he thinks it would be crazy for Giroux to remain with the Flyers since Philadelphia and the team that lands him each would benefit. Gulitti questioned if the Flyers even have plans to re-sign him.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars, Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers were all part of the discussions too.
