Alexander Edler signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. It has an average annual value of $750,000.

The 36-year-old defenseman, who could have become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday, had 19 points (three goals, 16 assists) in 41 games for the Kings this season, and two assists in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.
He missed 36 games after sustaining a broken ankle against the Minnesota Wild on Dec. 11 when he was checked by forward Brandon Duhaime at 2:40 of the first period.
Edler originally signed with the Kings July 28, 2021, after playing 15 seasons with the Vancouver Canucks. He is the Canucks' all-time leader in goals (99), assists (310) and points (409) by a defenseman and fourth overall in games played (925) behind Henrik Sedin (1,330), Daniel Sedin (1,306) and Trevor Linden (1,140).
Selected by Vancouver in the third round (No. 91) of the 2004 NHL Draft, Edler has 428 points (102 goals, 326 assists) in 966 regular-season games for the Canucks and Kings, and 40 points (eight goals, 32 assists) in 89 playoff games.
