Alexander Nylander heads Sweden's WJC camp roster

Alexander Nylander, selected by the Buffalo Sabres with the eighth pick of the 2016 NHL Draft, is one of 25 players that will skate for Sweden at the 2016 National Junior Evaluation Camp.
The camp will be held in Plymouth, Mich., from July 30 to Aug. 7, and include practices and games against the
United States
,
Canada
and Finland. The camp is the first step in picking the team that will play for Sweden at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Toronto and Montreal.

Nylander led Sweden at the 2016 WJC with four goals and nine points in seven games. Last season with Mississauga of the Ontario Hockey League, he led OHL rookies with 47 assists and 75 points, and was named the Canadian Hockey League rookie of the year. He capped his season with a team-best 11 points in seven games to help Sweden win the silver medal at the 2016 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.
Nylander is one of eight players from the 2016 WJC invited to the camp, including three picked in the first round of the 2015 draft: Center Joel Eriksson Ek (Minnesota Wild, No. 20), and defensemen Jacob Larsson (Anaheim Ducks, No. 27) and Gabriel Carlsson (Columbus Blue Jackets, No. 29).
Seven players invited to the camp are eligible for the 2017 draft, including two that are first-time draft eligible. Lias Andersson, a 5-foot-11, 198-pound forward, made his Swedish Hockey League debut last season, playing 22 games with HV 71. He led the Swedish junior league with 59 points and was third with 24 goals in 37 games with HV 71's junior team. Marcus Davidsson, a 6-foot, 180-pound forward, scored a goal in his one SHL game with Djurgarden, and had 17 goals and 40 points in 45 games for Djurgarden's team in the Swedish junior league.

Andersson and Davidsson also helped Sweden win the silver medal at the World Under-18 Championship. Andersson was second on the team with five goals and nine points in seven games, and Davidsson had two goals and one assist in four games.
Tomas Monten will coach Sweden at the 2017 WJC. He was an assistant coach with Sweden when it won the silver medal at the 2014 WJC.
