The defenseman was injured in the first period of a 2-1 win against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday during a fight against defenseman Logan Stanley. He left the game later that period and did not return.
"He's been playing great, so obviously you hate to see that go down," said Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm, who had been playing with Carrier. "But he did what he thought was right. It was unfortunate the way it happened. He stood up for a teammate. That was great. So good on him, but obviously we'll miss him."
Carrier has eight points (two goals, six assists) in 40 games this season.
"Yeah, you know [Carrier] is a tough loss," Nashville coach John Hynes said. "He's really played well with [Ekholm]. He really plays big minutes for us. I thought as of late, his game has been really good. So, it's unfortunate, but he should be back shortly after the (All-Star) break, hopefully. We'll see what the timeframe is going to be on that. But at least [10 days he's out], we're not playing. So, that helps."
The Predators, who host the New Jersey Devils on Thursday (8 p.m. ET; BSSO, MSGSN, ESPN+, SN NOW), recalled defenseman Kevin Gravel from Milwaukee of the American Hockey League. He has no points in four games with Nashville this season, and 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in 36 AHL games.
"I think when I'm at my best, I'm pretty solid defensively," Gravel said. "Hard to play against down low in our own zone. Just moving pucks quick to our forwards. I'll help out on the [penalty kill] if needed there. But really just try to focus on my own end of the ice, making plays quick and being heavy down low."
