Islanders win 3rd straight behind Palmieri's 2 goals

Kyle Palmieri scored two goals for the New York Islanders in a 4-3 win against the Anaheim Ducks at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on Sunday.

Josh Bailey had two assists for his third straight multipoint game (three goals, three assists), and Ilya Sorokin made 39 saves for the Islanders (24-24-8), who have won three in a row in regulation for the first time this season.
"I thought we came out with a really good start," New York coach Barry Trotz said. "Sorokin was unbelievable, probably saved four goals today, for sure."
Josh Manson, Isac Lundestrom and Adam Henrique scored, and John Gibson made 25 saves for the Ducks (27-25-10), who have lost the first four games of the five-game road trip.
"That's a tough one to lose," Henrique said. "This is a huge trip four our season and our team."

ANA@NYI: Palmieri goes bar down on one-timed chance

New York scored twice in the final 29 seconds of the first period to take a 3-1 lead.
Palmieri gave the Islanders a 2-1 lead at 19:31 when he scored from the left circle over Gibson's right shoulder.
Anders Lee then made it 3-1 with four seconds left when he deflected a point shot from defenseman Ryan Pulock past Gibson.
"We gave up those two in that last minute of a period, which you just can't do," Henrique said. "That ended up costing us."

ANA@NYI: Lee tips shot in with 3 seconds remaining

Lundestrom cut it to 3-2 at 14:23 of the second period, deflecting a point shot from defenseman Hampus Lindholm during a 4-on-4.
"As the game went on, we let them get back into it," Trotz said.
Palmieri made it 4-2 with a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle at 17:25 of the second, but Henrique again cut it to 4-3 with 1:44 left in the third on a rebound with Gibson pulled for the extra skater.
"We battled. We kept pushing. That's important," Henrique said. "Even that 6-on-5 (with Gibson pulled), that's something we maybe struggled with a little bit this year and we found a way to get one there."

ANA@NYI: Henrique scores in 3rd period

Zach Parise gave New York a 1-0 lead at 2:18 of the first period after Anaheim turned the puck over behind its net.
Gibson kept it a one-goal game with a save on Bailey off a 2-on-1 rush at 2:57, and he used his outstretched stick to keep a shot by Oliver Wahlstrom from crossing the line at 4:59.
Manson tied it 1-1 at 9:48, chipping in the rebound after Sorokin made a left pad save on Buddy Robinson's one-timer.
Sorokin made his best saves on back-to-back shots by Nicolas Deslauriers and Sam Carrick at 9:51 and 9:55 of the second period.
He also turned away Cam Fowler with his left pad twice in a row at 3:07 and 3:08 of the third.
"It wasn't our best performance on the homestead, but we got it done," Trotz said.
