Terry ties it late, wins it in overtime for Ducks

ST. LOUIS -- Troy Terry scored his second goal of the game on a penalty shot with 1:02 remaining in overtime to give the Anaheim Ducks a 3-2 win against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center on Sunday.

Terry skated in and beat Blues goalie Jon Gillies high with a backhand to end it.
"I was kind of thinking I was going to shoot it because the ice hadn't been shoveled," Terry said. "And before the shootout, you at least get like a shovel come through and the ice a little better. I was planning on shooting it and I … decided that once I made that first fake and where it was, I just knew I had to commit to whatever I did. And once I … made that switch, I just tried to commit to it."

Blues defenseman Scott Perunovich turned the puck over inside the offensive zone blue line trying to reverse the puck to Pavel Buchnevich and was called for slashing as Terry was going in on a breakaway.
"He's got to be a little bit more cautious and understand the situation a little bit better," Blues coach Craig Berube said. "He's young (23), he's learning on the fly in the NHL, and sometimes there's going to be mistakes."
Buddy Robinson scored, and Anthony Stolarz made 23 saves for the Ducks (16-9-5), who concluded a five-game road trip 3-1-1.
"Obviously, when you have a road trip like this, you kind of come together as a team and we're traveling around going city to city," Stolarz said. "Guys are hanging out in the hotel and whatnot, and that kind of brings that camaraderie together."
Nathan Walker had a goal and an assist, and Gillies made 36 saves in his first NHL start in almost three years for the Blues (15-8-5), who had their three-game winning streak and seven-game home streak end.
Gillies signed a one-year contract Dec. 8 with goalie Jordan Binnington in NHL COVID-19 protocol and Ville Husso out with a lower-body injury. He last played in the NHL with the Calgary Flames against the Vegas Golden Knights on April 7, 2018, when he made 26 saves in a 7-1 win.
"It's nice to play a hockey game," Gillies said. "Obviously, the gap between the starts in this league in particular was honestly much bigger than I thought it was going to be, but the belief never wavered. I know that I can play in this league, I know that I can be very successful in this league. From a personal standpoint, it was just kind of nice to be back is the best way to put it."
Robinson scored his first of the season on a rebound in front to give Anaheim a 1-0 lead at 12:32 of the first period.
Oskar Sundqvist's first of the season, a one-timer off a pass from Walker, tied it 1-1 at 6:43 of the second period.

Gillies, who is fifth on the Blues' depth chart behind Binnington, Husso, Joel Hofer and Charlie Lindgren, robbed Isac Lundestrom at 17:51 of the second, lunging to his right and making a stick save on a 2-on-1 to keep the game tied.
"I thought he played a great game," Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly said. "He made some really key saves for us. He deserved better. A little frustrating there having the lead late there and giving one up."
Walker gave the Blues a 2-1 lead at 7:40 of the third period on a wrist shot from the high slot. It was his fourth goal in three games since being recalled from Springfield of the American Hockey League.
Terry tied it 2-2 at 13:29, following up on his own rebound at the edge of the crease after Gillies stopped Cam Fowler's initial attempt from in close.
"I don't think we ever feel like we're out of it," Fowler said. "They got one there in the third and we continued to fight."
NOTES: The Ducks recalled goalie Lukas Dostal from San Diego of the American Hockey League to back up Stolarz with starter John Gibson out of the lineup because of a lower-body injury he sustained in a 1-0 loss at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. ... Forward Brayden Schenn, who had two assists in his 300th NHL game with the Blues, left in the third period because of an upper-body injury. Berube said Schenn "will be out of the lineup, day to day right now." ... Blues forward Jordan Kyrou missed the game with an upper-body injury, forcing St. Louis to play with 17 skaters for the third time in the past four games.
