Golden Knights recover to defeat Ducks on Whitecloud's late goal

LAS VEGAS -- Zach Whitecloud scored the go-ahead goal at 16:04 of the third period, and the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Anaheim Ducks 5-4 at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday.

Vegas led 4-1 before Anaheim scored three times in the third period to tie it.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 19 saves to improve to 5-0-0 for the Golden Knights (8-1-1), who are off to the best 10-game start in their four NHL seasons.
Dylan Coghlan had an assist for his first NHL point, and Chandler Stephenson had a goal and an assist for Vegas.

Mark Stone had an assist for his 400th NHL point. The Golden Knights captain leads them in scoring with 89 points (29 goals, 60 assists) in 93 games since being traded to Vegas from the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 25, 2019.
The Golden Knights canceled their postgame media availability due to NHL COVID-19 protocol.
The Ducks (5-6-3) lost in regulation for the first time in four games. Troy Terry, Adam Henrique, Ryan Getzlaf and Isac Lundestrom scored, and Ryan Miller made 26 saves for Anaheim.
Terry made it 4-2 at 5:02 of the third period, Henrique scored at 7:23 to make it 4-3, and Getzlaf tied it 4-4 on the power play at 9:59.
The comeback, I think, it shows our team's resiliency and that we can play with any team in this league," Terry said. "But there's no one that's happy right now. It's a mindset thing. It's been this way since I've been here, and I'm guilty of it. We can't be happy with coming back and making it close and playing Vegas to a close game."
Stephenson scored his third goal in two games at 10:56 of the first period, from Stone, to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead.
Marchessault made it 2-0 when Reilly Smith's pass deflected off his skate.

Alex Tuch made it 3-0 at 2:39 of the second period, and Lundestrom scored 59 seconds later at 3:38 to make it 3-1. Lundestrom scored for a second straight game after not scoring in his first 35 NHL games.
Nicolas Roy scored his first goal of the season at 16:42 to give Vegas a 4-1 lead.
Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore got his 100th NHL assist on Roy's goal. He did not play in the third period.

"That's one of the hardest parts about playing professional hockey is to take what you learn from games and move on," Terry said. "There's all kind of lessons from that game tonight. We need to figure out how to get off to a better start."
NOTES: Golden Knights forward Tomas Nosek also did not play in the third period. ... Stone has 152 goals and 248 assists in 459 NHL games.
