ANA@VGK: Dadonov buries shot to win the shootout

LAS VEGAS -- Ryan Getzlaf tied Teemu Selanne for the Anaheim Ducks points record in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Friday.

Getzlaf had an assist at 11:18 of the third period, his 988th NHL point, on a goal by Troy Terry to cut the Vegas lead to 4-2.
"He's an old soul. He's an incredible leader, and I think he'll just take it right in stride," Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. "I think he'll only quietly have a smile about it. I don't think it'll hit home to him what that really means until years after he's done playing."
Getzlaf is eighth in the NHL in points (949) since 2006-07 and is 12 points shy of becoming the first player to score 1,000 points with the Ducks.
"Personally, that's one of the coolest things I think I've been a part of for another individual," Ducks rookie forward Trevor Zegras said. "What he brings to this team is more than any one person. And to just be a small piece of his unbelievable career is something I'll remember for the rest of my life."

Getzlaf Ties Franchise Record with Assist to Terry

Anaheim (2-4-3) rallied from down 4-1 in the third period, scoring three times in a span of 5:11 to tie. Isac Lundestrom scored on a rebound at 15:44 to make it 4-3, and Adam Henrique tied it 4-4 at 16:29 on a deflection of a point shot by Kevin Shattenkirk.
John Gibson made 38 saves for Anaheim, which played the second of a back to back; the Ducks lost 4-3 in overtime to the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday after rallying from down 3-0. It was their sixth consecutive loss (0-3-3).
Evgenii Dadonov scored the deciding shootout goal in the bottom of the fourth round for the Golden Knights (4-4-0), who won their third straight game after losing four of their first five.
"This was a huge week for us," Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer said. "We were staring at an absolutely disastrous start. I thought guys dug deep all week to get us back to .500 here."
Chandler Stephenson and Nicolas Hague each had a goal and an assist, and Jonathan Marchessault had two assists for Vegas. Robin Lehner made 34 saves.

Reilly Smith gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 3:30 of the first period when he scored on the rebound of his own shot.
Vegas outshot Anaheim 10-0 in the first 4:31 and 21-8 in the first period.
"Even though we were getting terribly outplayed in the first, 'Gibby' put on a performance like I haven't seen in a while," Eakins said. "I think that's probably the best hockey I've ever seen in that first period."
Hague made it 2-0 at 3:52 of the second period on a one-timer from the high slot.
Zegras cut it to 2-1 at 15:49. Sonny Milano forced a turnover behind the net and Zegras scored on a one-timer alone in the slot.
Stephenson scored his team-leading fourth goal at 2:45 of the third to extend the lead to 3-1. He leads the Golden Knights with nine points; seven of them (three goals, four assists) have come with linemates Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty out due to injury.
"The guy is a great player," DeBoer said. "He might be, individual skill, he might have the most on our team, as far as skating and puck skills. When you watch this guy in practice, the sky's the limit for him with the talent he has. I just like how he's worked and how he's competed since the injuries happened."

William Carrier scored his first goal of the season at 5:56 for a 4-1 lead.
"You can't let a team come back from 4-1," Marchessault said. "It's disappointing, but we'll take the win."
