"Anders has a big, athletic frame (6-foot-5, 229 pounds) and we expect that he will compete at high level when called upon," general manager Jim Benning told the Canucks website. "Alongside [goalie Jacob Markstrom], we feel his addition will continue to make us competitive every night at the goaltending position."
Nilsson, 27, played 26 games (23 starts) for the Buffalo Sabres last season. He was 10-10-4 with one shutout and NHL career bests in goals-against average (2.67) and save percentage (.923).
Selected by the New York Islanders in the third round (No. 62) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Nilsson has played 78 games (67 starts) and is 29-32-8 with a 2.94 GAA, a .908 save percentage and two shutouts with the Sabres, Islanders, St. Louis Blues and Edmonton Oilers.
