kopitar son Brown split

Anze Kopitar became the Los Angeles Kings franchise leader in games played on Saturday and the previous record holder had a special message for him: You're old.

Former Kings forward Dustin Brown recorded a special message for Kopitar, who broke Brown's record Saturday night against the Boston Bruins by appearing in his 1,297th game for the team.

After a sincere congratulations from Brown at first, Kopitar's former teammate had a funny and pretty accurate observation.

"Two things need to happen for this type of record to be broken," Brown said. "First and foremost is you're one hell of a player and everyone knows that. And the second this is: you're old."

Kopitar also had a pretty good smile before the game when his son Jakob read the starting lineup in the locker room.

Jakob sported a shirt that of course had No. 11 on the back, but the front said "My dad is my hero."
