Gostisbehere nets OT winner in win over Blackhawks

CHICAGO --Shayne Gostisbehere scored a power-play goal with 15 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Arizona Coyotes a 3-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Sunday.

Gostisbehere won it when his intended pass for Phil Kessel hit off the skate of Jonathan Toews and redirected into the net.
"I think honestly we played a really good game," Gostisbehere said. "We did what we were told to do, get at pucks, and we were all on the same page tonight. Their goalie (Kevin Lankinen) played a heck of a game tonight, made some big saves there. It's fortunate that one goes in, but I was trying to pass it, actually, but hey, it happens."

Michael Carcone and Travis Boyd also scored for Arizona (22-42-5), which had lost seven of eight. Karel Vejmelka made 29 saves after he was pulled in the first period of a 5-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.
"That was huge the way we played," Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said. "The win for sure will kind of cap off everything, but the way we played, we were way more in sync. We talked a lot this morning about having more cohesion, being more in sync. Offensively, we were much better, more cohesion, more on the same page."
Dylan Strome and Patrick Kane scored, and Lankinen made 32 saves for Chicago (24-35-11), which has lost five in a row (0-3-2).
"Yeah, every day feels like Groundhog Day right now," Blackhawks coach Derek King said. "It was kind of a funny game. We come out, we started well and the second period, I don't know if we're tired from all this travel we've been doing or the busy schedule, but we just stop thinking, shut our brains off and let them get back in the game and take the lead.
"I did like our response in the third. We played well. I thought [Lankinen] played a great game. He was awesome. He deserved a better outcome the way he played. We just got a little too sloppy and a little too high risk in front of him there at the end. We just can't do that."
Prior to the game, the Blackhawks honored Toews, their captain, for playing in his 1,000th NHL game against the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
"Just in a minute here I'll cool down after what just happened this game and definitely get back to appreciating how special it was," Toews said. "I was pretty humbled and pretty touched with the recognition from my teammates."

Strome gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead at 1:15 of the first period. Alex DeBrincat gloved down the puck in the neutral zone before sending a short pass to Strome, who skated around Gostisbehere and shot glove side from the top of the left circle.
Carcone scored his second goal of the season to tie it 1-1 at 6:25 of the second period. Caleb Jones' clearing attempt around the boards was cut off by Anton Stralman, who sent the puck towards the net for a redirection by Carcone.
Boyd put the Coyotes in front 2-1 at 10:01 when he protected the puck through the middle of the zone and shot top shelf on Lankinen.
"First of all, it was a great play by [Gostisbehere], jumping up on the play and getting into the rush," Boyd said. "I was just trying to find a little open space. He made a great pass and slid it in to me. I had an option off to my side. I thought about passing it and saw the defenders kind of move toward that pass. I ended up getting a little bit of space to shoot it. I'm lucky enough it went in."
Kane tied it 2-2 at 5:33 of the third period with a power-play goal.
