Chicago had an apparent goal disallowed at 8:03. Max Domi skated in on a breakaway and dropped the puck to Taylor Raddysh, but Domi skated into Ingram, and Raddysh's goal was waved off for goaltender interference.
Colin Blackwell gave the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead at 14:34 of the third period when he jammed the puck into the net from the crease after Athanasiou skated towards the net.
It appeared that might be the winning goal until Bjugstad tied it late.
"I whiffed on one in front of the net there, so I was kicking myself," Bjugstad said. "It started with [Juuso] Valimaki. He took the hit. Nice of [Keller] to get open. He's going to find you. I put a little muffin on net, and sometimes they go in."
Chicago coach Luke Richardson said he felt a breakthrough was coming.
"I thought maybe when we got the third one, I just had a feeling that we'd maybe break through and get that fourth or fifth one, but unfortunately they got the [game-tying goal]," he said. "It was nice to convert in overtime. I thought again we had some really good [offensive]-zone time tonight. We didn't really penetrate the inside as much as I would like, and I still think we have to search and find some ways to do that. The first period we were flat for whatever reason."
