Blackhawks end 2-game skid with home OT victory

CHICAGO --Caleb Jones scored at 3:37 of overtime to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 win against the Arizona Coyotes at United Center on Friday.

After Coyotes goalie Connor Ingram stopped Andreas Athanasiou on a breakaway, Jones picked up the loose puck in the right face-off circle, skated in and scored five-hole.
"Yeah, it kind of felt like the Anaheim [Ducks] game a little bit all over again," Jones said of Chicago's 3-2 overtime loss Tuesday. "We were getting a lot of chances, a lot of [offensive]-zone time. I thought we came out flat, but once we found our legs, started playing a little more physical, it worked out for us, and it's nice to always get the two points when you play that way."

ARI@CHI: Jones puts Blackhawks on the board

Nick Bjugstad tied it 3-3 for Arizona, scoring from the slot at 17:33 of the third period.
Athanasiou had a goal and two assists, Sam Lafferty had two assists, and Jaxson Stauber made 23 saves for the Blackhawks (16-29-5), who play at the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
Stauber is the first goalie in Blackhawks history to win each of his first three games.
"Yeah, it feels great," he said. "Obviously it's a good start. Got to keep it going, though. I don't know if it'll be bragging rights. But yeah, it's pretty cool. Obviously really special with an Original Six team and so many great goalies."

ARI@CHI: Jones goes five-hole to win in overtime

Clayton Keller had a goal and two assists to reach 301 NHL points, Nick Schmaltz had a goal and an assist in his 400th NHL game, and Ingram made 40 saves for the Coyotes (17-28-7), who play at the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
"It was not our best focus," Arizona coach Andre Tourigny said. "I think we played well at the beginning. When we scored our first goal, I think we started to be a little bit fancy, a bit cute, turned the puck over a lot, did not defend with enough drive. But I think we got better in the third, and we played with more identity, better forecheck, better in our battles. We played better in the third period."

ARI@CHI: Blackwell adds late goal in 3rd period

Keller gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead at 1:28 of the first period, skating into the left circle and putting a wrist shot past Stauber.
Schmaltz made it 2-0 at 12:34 with a shot from a tough angle on the left following a cross-crease pass by Keller.
Seth Jones brought the Blackhawks within 2-1 at 13:53 when he took a pass from Boris Katchouk and scored from the right circle on a delayed penalty.
Athanasiou tied it 2-2 at 2:43 of the second period, moving in from the left boards and scoring on a backhand.
"I think sometimes the pucks just bounce your way in certain situations, and a couple shifts there where, as a line, we were in on the forecheck and were working really hard and skating," Athanasiou said. "And when you do that, you create your own bounces, so I think as a line and as a team, we did that."

ARI@CHI: Athanasiou scores with a backhand in the 2nd

Chicago had an apparent goal disallowed at 8:03. Max Domi skated in on a breakaway and dropped the puck to Taylor Raddysh, but Domi skated into Ingram, and Raddysh's goal was waved off for goaltender interference.
Colin Blackwell gave the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead at 14:34 of the third period when he jammed the puck into the net from the crease after Athanasiou skated towards the net.
It appeared that might be the winning goal until Bjugstad tied it late.
"I whiffed on one in front of the net there, so I was kicking myself," Bjugstad said. "It started with [Juuso] Valimaki. He took the hit. Nice of [Keller] to get open. He's going to find you. I put a little muffin on net, and sometimes they go in."
Chicago coach Luke Richardson said he felt a breakthrough was coming.
"I thought maybe when we got the third one, I just had a feeling that we'd maybe break through and get that fourth or fifth one, but unfortunately they got the [game-tying goal]," he said. "It was nice to convert in overtime. I thought again we had some really good [offensive]-zone time tonight. We didn't really penetrate the inside as much as I would like, and I still think we have to search and find some ways to do that. The first period we were flat for whatever reason."
NOTES: Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson had his three-game goal streak end (three goals). … The 44 shots on goal were a season high for the Blackhawks. Athanasiou led them with eight. … Coyotes forward Liam O'Brien had two shots and five hits in 10:58 after missing 23 games with a right hand injury. … Keller has 115 goals and 186 assists in 412 NHL games. Among players to debut with the franchise since it relocated from Winnipeg to Arizona in 1996, he required the fewest games to reach 300 points (Keith Yandle, 541).
