As part of NHL.com's 32 in 32 series, the fantasy hockey staff put together projections for relevant players on the Arizona Coyotes. Players are listed in order of fantasy rank for this season.
Reason for optimism: Keller was tied for 11th in the NHL in even-strength points (65) and was tied for ninth in even-strength goals (30) last season. He also set NHL career highs in goals (37), assists (49) and points (86) in 82 games.
Reason for optimism: Despite dealing with injuries, Schmaltz had 58 points (22 goals, 36 assists) in 63 games last season after he had 59 points (23 goals, 36 assists) in 63 games in 2021-22. His average of 0.93 points per game over those two seasons ranks second on the Coyotes behind Keller (1.00), who is his frequent linemate.
Reason for optimism: Hayton ranked second on the Coyotes in shots on goal (178) last season, behind Keller (223). He also came on strong down the stretch, finishing with 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) in his final 19 games while playing mostly on the top line with Keller and Schmaltz.
Reason for optimism: Maccelli led NHL rookies in assists (38) and points per game (0.77; minimum 10 games) in 64 games last season. He was also second on the Coyotes in power-play points (13) despite playing mostly on the second unit.
NHL.com point projection: 53
ANA@ARI: Maccelli one-times puck home to tie the game
Reason for optimism: Durzi, who was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings on June 24, was tied for 26th among NHL defensemen in power-play points (16) last season. He has high upside if he sees time on the top unit after playing mostly on the second unit during his first two NHL seasons with the Kings.
