The forward left the Coyotes' 2-1 shootout victory against the Los Angeles Kings in the first period on Friday.
Maccelli is second among NHL rookies with 22 points (three goals, 19 assists) in 30 games.
"Everybody talked about the great season he's having, but I don't think they realize how good he is and how much he helped our team and how consistent he was outside of the puck," Arizona coach Andre Tourigny said Tuesday. "How competitive he was, his read away from the puck."
Tourigny said he's seen growth in Maccelli's game from last season, when he had six points (one goal, five assists) in 23 games.
"He's much better than people give him credit away from the puck defensively," Tourigny said. "His puck management was poor last year … which is normal for an offensive player when you start to try to do a little bit too much."
Forward
Michael Carcone
was recalled from Tucson of the American Hockey League and will make his NHL season debut against the Colorado Avalanche at Mullett Arena on Tuesday (9 p.m. ET; BSAZX, ALT2, ESPN+, SN NOW).
Carcone leads the AHL with 42 points (16 goals, 26 assists) in 27 games. He has 21 games of NHL experience, all with the Coyotes last season.
"Pound-for-pound, he's really strong on the puck," Tourigny said. "He has all the offensive tools. He needed to improve his all-around game, his awareness away from the puck. He's off to a really good start offensively in Tucson, so I'm excited to see him having a chance."
