Canucks win on Ben Hutton penalty-shot goal in OT

VANCOUVER --Vancouver Canucks defenseman Ben Hutton doesn't get many breakaways or penalty shots, but it was hard to tell watching him score the overtime winner Thursday.
After being hooked by Arizona Coyotes forward Dylan Strome on a breakaway, Hutton scored on the ensuing penalty shot 2:34 into overtime, beating goalie Louis Domingue with a backhand deke between the legs to give the Canucks a 3-2 win at Rogers Arena.
"Jeez, I think it might have been my freshman year in college," Hutton said of his prior penalty shot. "That's the move I use in practice. I've never attempted it in a game, obviously. I was a little nervous going into it, but it worked out."

Brad Richardson and Tony DeAngelo scored in the second period to give the Coyotes a 2-0 lead, but Brandon Sutter and Daniel Sedin scored 2:13 apart later in the period to tie it 2-2.
"Those two goals at the end of the second were huge," Sedin said.
The Canucks tied it shortly after Richardson was taken from the ice on a stretcher with 8:37 left in the second period after getting his right leg caught under him on a hit by 265-pound Canucks defenseman Nikita Tryamkin.
Richardson was on the ice for several minutes before being taken off by medical personnel and taken to the hospital for further evaluation of a lower-body injury.
"I don't have any clear information yet," coach Dave Tippett said.

Seeing the veteran center leave on a stretcher seemed to affect the Coyotes, who went up 1-0 on Richardson's wrist shot at 1:22 and 2-0 on DeAngelo's power-play goal at 10:45.
"I think it's in the back of everyone's head," DeAngelo said. "Seeing a tough guy like that in that much pain was tough, but you still have to find a way to keep going."
Sutter started the comeback with 4:15 remaining in the period when he sent a wrist shot over Domingue's blocker to cut the Arizona lead to 2-1. Sedin tied it 2-2 on the power play with 2:02 left.
Jacob Markstrom made 34 saves for the Canucks (7-10-1), who bounced back from a 7-2 loss against the New York Rangers on Tuesday and have three wins in their past five games after losing the previous nine.
"It should give us a little life," Vancouver coach Willie Desjardins said.
Domingue made 39 saves for the Coyotes (5-9-2), who lost 2-1 in overtime to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday and have lost four in a row (0-2-2).

Daniel Sedin scored after brother Henrik Sedin's nice cross-ice backhand pass from the corner to Alexander Edler at the far point. Edler faked a quick shot to draw out Domingue before passing to Daniel Sedin in the slot for a one-timer past the stranded goalie.

Save of the game

Canucks forward Sven Baertschi broke out on a 2-on-1 with time running out in the third period, but Domingue got his glove on his high wrist shot just before the buzzer.

Unsung moment of the game

Edler dropped to block a shot from an open Jordan Martinook in the slot 5:30 into the third period after a nice pass from Shane Doan from behind the net.

Highlight of the game

Vancouver appeared to open the scoring with 8:04 left in the first period, but Tippett challenged for goalie interference, and video review showed Canucks forward Michael Chaput had the end of Domingue's stick under his arm. "It was the right call," Desjardins said. "As soon as I saw it, I knew it was probably going to come back."
