Matthews has sported the look since he entered the NHL in 2016 but is putting it on the line for the annual November movement that supports men's mental health and suicide prevention and testicular and prostate cancer.
Matthews unveiled the news with a funny video on the Movember Canada Twitter page and his personal Instagram page where he read some fan reactions to his soup strainer.
"Some of you love it, some of you hate it. I'm only willing to shave it off but only for a good cause," Matthews said in the video. "Your donation will help Movember improve the lives of men. The fate of this incredible mustache is now in your very capable hands"
Matthews raised
nearly $4,000 less than two hours
after the fundraiser was announced, meaning he may have to break out the razor sooner than the end of the month.
